1/2 cup grated coconut
250 grams chemmeen / prawns
2 tsps chilli powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsps coriander powder
1/4 tsp Garam masala powder
1/2 cup onion chopped fine
1 tsp green chillies chopped fine
few curry leaves
1 tsp ginger crushed
3 garlic flakes crushed
1/2 cup tomatoes chopped fine
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup thick coconut milk
1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
Salt to taste
4 tbsps Oil

How to prepare Chemmeen Ada?
Clean, wash and soak the boiled rice in warm water for 4-5 hours.
Drain and grind it to a smooth paste with salt and grated coconut.
Apply a little chilli powder, turmeric and salt to the prawns and leave it for 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the prawns till they are tender and cooked. Remove the prawns.
In the same oil add the chopped green chillies, onions and curry leaves.
when the onions turn golden add chopped tomatoes, crushed ginger and garlic. Saute till the tomatoes turn soft and pulpy.
Add remaining chilli powder, turmeric powder and the coriander powder with water and salt to taste.
As it starts boiling add the fried prawns. Cook uncovered till the gravy thickens and the raw smell of the masala powders go off. Keep aside till it cools down.
Make small balls from the dough and spread in to rounds on a small plantain leaf. Put in a little stuffing in to one half and close it with the other half of the round.  You have to fold it with the plantain leaf.
Continue and repeat the same process till you finish up the dough and the filling.
Steam all the pancakes in the steamer / idly cooker for 10 to 15 minutes or so.
Prick it with a skewer to see if it ready and cooked.
Serve as a teatime snack.
