Chena Koottan / Yam Curry


Ingredients needed for Yam curry 
2 cups chena/ yam
salt to taste
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 red chillies
1 cup fresh grated coconut

For Tempering 
3 tbsps coconut oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
2 red chillies
few curry leaves

How to prepare Chena Koottan?   
Remove the thick skin of yam and cut in to small cubes.  Take 2 cups of the cubed yam, add turmeric powder and salt to taste.  Add enough water to cook the yam tender.
Dry roast the two red chillies and grind to a smooth paste with the grated coconut.
Add the ground coconut chilli paste to the cooked yam, mix well.
Simmer till they blend well and the yam is cooked well.
Heat oil, splutter mustard seeds, broken red chillies and curry leaves. As the chillies turn colour pour over yam curry. Mix well.
Serve with hot rice and spicy side dish.
