Rasam, kerala style


Ingredients needed for preparing Rasam
3 tomatoes
1 tsp Rasam powder
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
Sugar to taste ( optional )
1 green chilli slit
2 tbsps coriander leaves chopped
1 tsp tamarind pulp
1/2 cup water from the cooked Tuar Dal
1 tsp ghee
handful curry leaves
1 red chilli
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp lime juice
1/2 tsp asafoetida powder

How to prepare Rasam in Kerala style?
Mix chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, salt to taste, sugar to taste, slit green chilli, chopped coriander leaves and the tamarind pulp together, add enough water to bring the mixture to boil. Cook till the tomatoes are tender and pulpy.
Add the cooked Dal water and simmer for a minute or two.
Heat ghee in a fry pan, splutter mustard seeds and fry broken red chilli. Add the curry leaves and asafoetida  and pour over the Rasam.
As the last step add lime juice and remove. Your rasam is ready to serve.
