Pavaikka Thayir Pachadi / Karela Raita


Ingredients needed for the Pavaikka Thayir Pachadi / Karela Raita
2 cups of sliced Bitter Gourds
3 cups fresh curds
Oil for frying.

Grind to a smooth paste 
4 tsps of freshly grated coconut
2-3 Green chilies
Salt as needed
1/4 cup.fresh curds

Ingredients needed for Seasoning
2-3 tsps Oil
½ tsp Mustard seeds
¼ tsp Cumin seeds
2 pinches Asafoetida Powder
½ tsp Urad dal
a few Curry leaves.

How to prepare Pavaikka Thayir Pachadi / Karela Raita?
Remove the ends off the bitter gourd and then slice them into thin rounds.
Heat oil in a fry pan and deep fry the sliced Pavaikka till they are somewhat dark and crispy.
Remove and drain on kitchen tissues to remove excess oil.
Grind fresh coconut, green chilli, salt together and mix with the 1/4 cup of curd to get a smooth paste.
Mix in  fried Pavaikka pieces and coconut paste with the curds.
Heat  oil in a small fry pan and temper the dish with the seasoning ingredients. Pour over the curd mixture.
Serve as a side dish with rice and chappathies.
