Ingredients needed for Pavaikka Mulagootal
1/2 cup Tuar Dal
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt to taste
2 cup pavaikka cut in to thin rounds
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tbsp ghee
2 tsps tamarind paste / pulp
Roast and grind to a paste
2 tbsps channa Dal
2 tbsps Urad Dal
4 red chillies
To temper the gravy
oil as needed
mustardseeds
urad dal
fenugreek seeds
red chillies
curry leaves
3/4 cup grated coconut
How to prepare Pavaikka Mulaghootal?
Cook dal with just enough water and turmeric powder. Mash and keep aside.
Now clean the bittergourd s and cut them in to thin slices. Saute them in ghee till they are golden.
Add tamarind paste, salt to taste and water to the fried pavaikka and cook it till tender.
Now add the ground masala ingredients and add to the boiling gravy.when done add the cooked and mashed dal to it and mix well.
Fry the tempering ingredients and add fresh grated coconut. Fry till the coconut turns golden.
Pour over the Mulagootaland serve with plain rice
