How to prepare Kadala Curry without coconut - 1?
Wash and soak the black channa for at least for 6 hours. Cook the chana with salt in a pressure cooker with 2 cups water for at least 4 whistles. Let cool.
Heat a teaspoon of oil in a pan and fry the coriander seeds, garlic and small onions for about 15 minutes until the small onions are golden.
When it gets cool grind to a smooth paste, adding a little water. Keep aside.
Add a little more oil to the same pan. Splutter mustard seeds and add red chilly.
Now add the sliced onions and curry leaves. Sauté until they get golden.
Then add the red chilli powder, turmeric powder and garam masala powder.
Sauté this until raw smell from the masala goes off.
Add the ground onion paste and mix well with the masalas and add the cooked channa along with the water. Mix well and add salt.
Add more water if needed. Simmer when the kadala curry starts to boil and cover.
The gravy thickens as the curry cools down a bit. Serve with puttu, appam and rotis.
