Ingredients needed for Kadala Curry without coconut
1 cup Kadala / small Brown Channa
1 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
1 tsp Ginger/garlic paste
2 green chillies
few curry leaves
2 tsps corriander powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp Red chilly powder
1 tsp garam masala powder
2 tbsps Oil
How to prepare Kadala Curry without coconut ?
Wash and soak small sized brown channa for at least 6 hours.
In a pressure cooker put in the soaked kadala with turmeric powder and salt and cook for about 7-8 whistles. Heat oil in a kadai and fry onions to a golden colour. Then add ginger/garlic paste, curry leaves,chopped green chillies and all the masala powders. Mix well and finally add the chopped tomatoes.
Once the tomatoes gets soft and mushy add the cooked kadala in to it.
Cook till the kadala gets coated in the masala and serve with Dosa, puttu or parathas.
This will not have much gravy, as the masala will just coat the channa. If you like you can add a little more water according to your taste and the consistency you need.
