Urulankizhanghu Cholam Piralan / Potato Corn Masala


Ingredients needed for Urulankizhanghu Cholam Piralan
1/2 kilo potatoes
1/2 kilo corn kernels
1 onion
4 garlic flakes
3 red chillies
2 cloves
2 cinnamon pieces
2 green cardamoms
1 tbsp khus khus
6 tbsps oil
2 tomatoes chopped
Salt to taste
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
chopped coriander leaves for garnishing

How to prepare Urulankizhanghu Cholam Piralan?
Boil potatoes with their skin and drain the water. When cool, peel the skin and cut into small pieces. Keep aside.
Boil corn and separate the kernels and keep aside.
Grind Onion, garlic, red chillies, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom and khuskhus to a smooth paste  and keep aside.
Heat oil in a non stick pan, fry the ground masala paste till the oil separates.
Add chopped tomatoes and cook till they are soft and mushy.
Add the boiled and cubed potatoes, corn kernels, salt to taste and turmeric powder. Mix well.
Sprinkle a little water to combine all the ingredients together. Cover and cook for about 5 minutes.
Remove, garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve with rice / chappathies.

Notes
Piralan is a malayalam word for mixing of masala and frying. The dish will be a masala but without gravy.
