Kerala Red fish curry


Ingredients needed for the Kerala Red fish curry
200 grams of any firm fleshed fish
8 small onions
2-3 garlic flakes
1" piece ginger
5 tbsp coconut oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
A few fenugreek seeds
2 tsp kashmiri chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
1-2 tsp coriander powder
12 curry leaves
1-2 kudam puli

How to prepare Kerala Red fish curry?
Wash thoroughly and soak the kudam puli in 1 cup warm water for 15 mins or so
Crush the garlic, shallots, and ginger in a pestle and mortar or grind coarsely in a small grinder
Clean and cut the fish into smaller pieces,
Heat the oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds.
Add the fenugreek seeds and as they turn dark, add crushed garlic, small onion and ginger mixture
Fry till it turns golden.
Then add the turmeric, chilli, and coriander powders and saute for a minute or two.
Now add salt, curry leaves and kudam puli along with the water it was soaking in. Bring the gravy to boil.
Simmer and gently add the fish pieces and bring to boil.
Cover and let it simmer on low flame till the fish pieces are cooked.
Remove and serve with steamed rice, thoran, and chips or with boiled tapioca (kappa puzhukku).
