Ingredients needed for Muringapoovu Parippu thoran
2 - 3 cups muringa Poovu/ Drumstick flowers
50 grams masoordal
1 cup grated coconut
4 green chillies
4 small onions
1 tsp cumin seeds
Salt to taste
2 tbsp oil
1/2 tsp mustard seeds
2 dry red chillies broken in to bits
few curry leaves
How to prepare Murinjapoovu Parippu Thoran?
Cook the masoor dal separately till they are just done, strain and keep aside. Do not let the dal get very soft.
Wash, clean the drumstick flowers and drain out the water. Keep aside.
Crush lightly, the coconut, small onions, cumin seeds and the green chillies in a mixer. Keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds. Add broken red chillies and when they change colour add curry leaves.
Now add the drum stick flowers, cooked dal and salt to taste. Mix well.
Cover for a minute or two till the flowers get soft.
Add the crushed coconut mix to the pan and mix well.
Simmer and cover for a minute. Remove and serve hot with plain rice and curry.
