Chena Mezhukkupuratti

Ingredients needed for Chena Mezhukkupuratti
250 grams Chena / yam
1 cup small onions sliced
3-4 garlic flakes
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
2 tsps red chilli powder
2 tbsps coconut oil
mustard seeds
1 tsp saunf
curry leaves

How to prepare Chena Fry / Mezhukkupuratti?
Cut Chena / elephant yam into one inch wide long pieces. Then cut it into thick (not cubes) pieces.
Add just enough water ( about 1 cup ) for the chena pieces to cook soft. Do not let it get mushy.
Heat oil, splutter mustard seeds, curry leaves and saunf.
Add the sliced small onions and crushed garlic flakes. Saute till they turn golden.
Add chilli powder and turmeric powder, stir for a minute.
Now add the cooked chena / yam pieces and saltto taste.
Mix well, cover and simmer till all the ingredients mix and blend well.
Serve hotwith curd rice / plain rice.
